Ecommerce
Ecommerce websites that sell.
At Heart IT, we specialise in building ecommerce websites that look great and convert visitors into customers. Whether you are launching a brand-new online store or upgrading an existing one, our team has the skills and experience to deliver a solution that works for your business, from WooCommerce and Shopify right through to fully custom platforms.
Platforms we build on
The right platform for your store.
We work with leading platforms including WooCommerce and Shopify, giving you the flexibility to manage your products, orders, and customers with ease. If your needs go beyond an off-the-shelf solution, we also build fully custom ecommerce platforms tailored to your exact requirements.
WooCommerce.
The world's most flexible ecommerce platform, built on WordPress. Perfect for brands who want full ownership of their store, limitless customisation, and no monthly platform fees. We build fast, secure WooCommerce stores with proper hosting, caching and payment gateway integration baked in.
Shopify.
The fastest path to a polished, high-performing online store. We design and build Shopify and Shopify Plus stores with custom Liquid theming, app integrations and properly-configured checkout, giving you a managed, reliable platform without the cookie-cutter look.
Custom Platforms.
When off-the-shelf won't cut it, we build fully custom ecommerce platforms tailored to your exact requirements, from bespoke product configurators and trade portals to multi-vendor marketplaces and subscription models. Built in-house in Liverpool, owned entirely by you.
Headless & Composable.
For brands that need serious performance: a headless frontend (Next.js, React) pulling product data from Shopify, BigCommerce or a custom backend. Lightning-fast PDPs, perfect Core Web Vitals and total design freedom. Ideal for high-traffic or content-led retailers.

Case study
Liverpool Retailer Case Study.
A Liverpool-based independent retailer came to Heart IT with a tired, slow-loading WooCommerce store that was haemorrhaging sales at checkout. Basket abandonment sat at 78%, mobile load times were over six seconds, and the admin workflow to fulfil orders took twice as long as it should. We rebuilt the store from the ground up, and turned it into their most profitable sales channel inside six months.
Full WooCommerce Rebuild With Custom Checkout.
We moved the store to a properly-architected WooCommerce setup with a custom-themed, single-page checkout. Guest checkout, Apple Pay and Klarna were added up front, and the mobile load time dropped from 6.2s to under 1.4s, which on its own lifted mobile conversion by over 60%.
Inventory, Shipping & Accounts Integrations.
We connected the store to their Xero accounting and Royal Mail shipping accounts so orders, invoices and shipping labels generate automatically, cutting fulfilment time per order by more than half and giving their team hours back every week to focus on marketing and new product launches.
FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions.
Thinking about a new ecommerce store or a rebuild of an existing one? Here are the questions we get asked most. If your situation isn't covered below, drop us a line and we'll give you an honest, no-sales-pitch answer.
It depends entirely on the scale of your store and the platform. A polished WooCommerce or Shopify store with a modest product catalogue typically starts around £3,500–£6,000. Larger stores with hundreds of SKUs, custom integrations (ERP, accounting, shipping) or bespoke features typically land between £8,000 and £25,000+. We'll always quote transparently after a short scoping call, and we offer staged payment plans on larger projects.
As a rule: Shopify is the fastest way to launch and the easiest to run, and is great for most new D2C brands. WooCommerce gives you more flexibility, total ownership and no monthly platform fees, making it great for content-led retailers and anyone on WordPress already. A fully custom platform only makes sense if you have genuinely unique requirements (trade pricing tiers, complex configurators, multi-vendor marketplaces). On a scoping call we'll recommend the option we'd pick if it were our business, not the one with the biggest invoice.
A focused Shopify or WooCommerce build typically takes 6–10 weeks from kickoff to launch, assuming content and product data are ready. Larger stores or custom platforms run 12–20 weeks. We work in short, weekly sprints with regular demos so you see progress constantly. No black-box six-month projects where you don't hear from us.
Yes. We routinely migrate stores from Magento, Wix, Squarespace, Big Cartel, legacy WooCommerce builds and custom systems into new Shopify or WooCommerce stores. That includes products, variants, images, customer accounts, order history and 301 redirects from old URLs to new ones, so you don't lose any SEO equity when you relaunch.
All the big ones. Stripe, PayPal, Klarna, Clearpay, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Worldpay, Opayo (formerly Sage Pay) and Amazon Pay on the payments side. For shipping we integrate with Royal Mail, DPD, Evri, ParcelForce, DHL and dedicated multi-carrier platforms like ShipStation or Shiptheory. If you use a niche regional gateway or 3PL, we'll almost always be able to connect it.
